How to skate with the 1080 Sprint
This guide summarizes details important to using the 1080 Sprint with resisted skating.
1080 Tip! The Sprint 2 can be on ice using friction spikes or placed outside the rink
This guide summarizes the steps to set up and use the 1080 Sprint 2 for resisted and assisted skating in an ice rink environment.
Note
Quick start apps are used to quickly start a workout on the machine. To save data and perform analysis, please connect the control app remotely. How to connect Sprint 2 or Cable to Control App
1080 Tip! Wipe down the line and unit after on-ice use and store the machine in a dry place. Moisture from ice and cold-to-warm transitions can cause condensation inside the unit.
Step 1: Secure the 1080 Sprint 2 off the ice or on the ice
Off Ice - Position the unit at the end of the skating lane on a stable, level surface ā the bench, behind the boards with the door open, or on a platform at ice level.
- Make sure the unit cannot slide toward the ice. Add weight to the telescoping handle for it to not slide onto the ice.
On Ice - Position the unit with traction spikes attached to the 1080 Sprint 2 and the telescoping handle. The weight of the machine will secure the unit from sliding. If needed, add weight to the telescoping handle.
-
Align the line with the skating direction and keep the lane clear of other skaters.
-
Attach the line to the athlete using a waist belt or harness.
Step 2: Launch the Quick Start Resisted Sprint App or Sessions App
- Open the app on the 1080 Sprint 2 display screen to record skating top speed, 0-5 time, and total time.
- Utilize the Sessions App to record and save a resisted skate exercise and view advanced metrics. Learn more about the Sessions App.
Step 3: Set Up the Zero Position
- Calibrate the "zero position" to ensure the line does not fully retract after a rep.
- Recommended distance: at least 5 meters or 5 yards from the machine, at the edge of the ice.
Step 4: Choose Mode
- Resisted: Athlete skates away from the machine against resistance.
- Assisted: Athlete skates toward the machine with assistance (overspeed).
Step 5: Adjust Load
- Default load: 3 kilograms (recommended for baseline skating testing).
- Increase or decrease the load using the app controls.
- Fine-tune to values like 5.25 kg or 3.5 kg as needed using the "fine" option.
Step 6: Set Measurement Distance
- Choose the distance to measure (e.g., 15 meters, 30 meters, or the length of the rink) in the top bar.
- The app units match the machine setting.
Step 7: Begin the Skate
- Ensure the settings are correct, then start the skating movement.
- Adjust load and distance settings as necessary between reps.
Step 8: View Results
-
After the rep, results will display:
-
Miles per hour (or kph in metric). - Total time. - Distance skated.
-
Results are saved as reps and are kept until you exit the app.
Note
Data will save to the user account when using the Sessions App on the 1080 Sprint 2 screen or the Control App on a Windows laptop or tablet. This requires the user to log in to their account and have an active professional software license.
Step 9: Manage Reps
- To delete a rep: Select the rep.
- Press the delete button.
